About the piece: Hadiza. performs stripped down versions of previously released songs from her album Shadow Weight, and new work in the Diaspora Gothic style she has been developing since her first EP, Gone.
Hadiza (with a period) is a 90s diaspora baby whose mother tongue is Hausa, most common tongue, English and adopted tongue is french. Her spirit’s tongue is music, and she uses her tools to more deeply connect with her shadow self, her ancestors and to process the realities of an often violently anti-black, queer antagonistic society as she moves through the world.

Hadiza's questions for you:
- What do you tend to pay attention more to when you experience music? (words, melody, beat/rhythm?)
- What images come to your mind’s eye as you listen to song 1? song 2? song 3?
- How would you describe the style of this music to someone who hadn't heard it before? Are there any themes or elements you can identify? If so, what (if any) ways can you think of to modify and/or expand?
- Is there anything you were expecting to hear that you did not? Or anything you heard that you did not expect?
