Music from Joseph Peaks
About the piece: A reimagining of Basinski’s Disintegration Loops using gear not designed for the task. Repetition creates motion then tension and ultimately emotional content.
About Joseph: My work focuses on the battle between my compositional ideas and the limitations of the systems used to bring them to fruition. Magic resides in the unexpected ways all systems fail.

Joseph's questions for you
- Before tonight, were you aware of William Basinski’s Disintegration Loops and how it was created?
- Do you know what the concepts of phase relationships and rhythmic modulation are in music? Would you care to wager a guess if you don’t?
- People tend to process music/sound either in their head ( mentally ) or their body ( physically). Where did the music resonate ( or not ) for you specifically?
Poetry from Iris Appelquist
About the piece: Using traditional and technological elements to experiment with exposition as a medium for poetry.
Iris Appelquist has been performing and publishing poetry from Kansas City for twenty years. With experiments in exposition, she hopes to interrupt expectations of poetry and poetry performance.

Iris' questions for you:
- Would your experience of this performance have been helped or hindered by having the printed text of the source material? How? Why?
- Have you ever encountered poetry in a context other than printed matter or live recitation?
- Considering this exposition, do you feel more or less curious about poetry, in general, and why?
Music from True Lions
About the piece: True Lions will be performing traditional Ozark music blasted through heavy distortion and synthesis, folding a century of folk and punk music into itself.
True Lions is the multi-genre “folk punk” band founded by Alison Hawkins, a queer nonbinary artist, writer, multi-instrumentalist, and music teacher in KCK. Their music blends fiddle distortion/octivization, heavy drums, and bass synth. They created two EPs in 2019, and a keytar-inspired full-length album “The Fempire Strikes Back” in 2021 released by Manor Records. In 2022, they became obsessed with old time fiddle while hiking through North American national parks. In 2023, Al teamed up with their partner Fritz Hutchison to create a homemade split tape, also released by Manor Records.

True Lion's questions for you:
- What genre(s) would you call this music?
- How did this music make you feel?
- Are there other artists/musicians that you believe are similar?
