Music from Joe McGuire
Joe McGuire aka Pleazure has been the main songwriter and producer as well as band leader and original co-founding DJ and promoter for the Afrolicious band, party, sound system, etc. Afrolicious is a dance-fusion collective centered in San Francisco, California founded by Joe and his brother Oz "Señor Oz" McGuire. The group's weekly residency at the Elbo Room in the Mission District has established Afrolicious as an integral player in the San Francisco live music scene. In addition to its reputation for regular touring, Afrolicious has released two EPs as well as a full-length original album.
Joe’s questions for you
- Forever More: Regarding the lyrics, do they leave room for individual interpretation, or are they too obvious?
- Magic Lives Inside: Describe the song's mood or energy. Do you enjoy the stripped down sound, or should I add more to the mix?
- Right Direction: Do the vocals and music mix well? What feeling or emotion is evoked for you in the voice?
Poetry from Melissa Ferrer Civil
Melissa Ferrer Civil (she/they) is a christian, first-gen, queer, black, femme, multi-disciplinary artist, organizer, educator and theologian who battles with mental illness. Primarily a poet, Melissa writes into and from the body, and the spirit therein. She believes deeply in the quote spoken by June Jordan that says “Poetry is a political act because it involves telling the truth.” They have performed on stages internationally and their published work can be found on their website at www.melissaferrerand.com. You can follow them on IG: @melissaferrerand or Twitter: @melissafpoet
Melissa's questions for you:
- Describe the full performance in one word.
- What is one phrase or image that stuck with you from this performance?
- Did this performance open the door to new perspectives? If so, in what way?
