About the piece: "In the past year, three different audience members who were professional poets suggested I find a performance space to deliver some of my song's lyrics as if they were poems. From my 40+ song discography, I've decided to try delivering four original works as poems instead of having a backing track, solely focusing on the words' messaging and delivery without any music distractions."
Poems:
- Teen Arthritis
- Dancing In The Room
- Gunning Innocence,
- Bi Bi

About the piece: A work based exploring the intangibility of movement, exploring the concept of reality, and how time flows in many ways. Explore the concept of reality and what exists and what doesn’t. About time and how it flows in many ways.
Kaitlyn Gardner, at her core, moves to create instances and feelings. She is guided by passion and curiosity. She’s a Tucson native brought to Kansas City, Missouri to pursue a BFA in dance and choreography from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Since graduating in 2019 from UMKC’s Conservatory she’s danced as a freelance artist for several Kansas City companies such as Tristian Griffin Dance Company, Kostas Contemporary, Quixotic, and Wylliams Henry. She has also had the opportunity to perform in Charlotte Street Foundation’s “Making Moves” programs for Olivia Emert and Alexis Borth in 2022. Kaitlyn has created professionally for Tristian Griffin Dance Company’s Mosaic performance in 2022, as well as created group and solo work for Lawrence Arts Center and solos for UMKC Conservatory graduating seniors. She believes art should trigger new thoughts, insights, realizations and questions about themselves, their fellow humans around them, and life itself. She believes in dance as a form of language and the art of time. She understands that the dancers are the vessels for the audience’s experience and keeps all of these ideas in mind while crafting her movement experience for the audience, her dancers and herself.

Kaitlyn's questions for you:
- 1. What is a move or movement we did that stuck with you? (Write, draw or show the move)
- Did any words come into your mind while watching?
- Have you personally done any of the moves you saw on stage? If so, what did that bring up for/within you?
- How do you feel the “story” ended?
Prodigal Songs is a musical parable that begins in Galilee, Texas and goes on a cross country odyssey through San Francisco, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. Who are the people who get left out of our songs and stories? What are the mythologies we create for ourselves?
Inspired by Folk Songs, Mexican Corridos, and Popular Standards, Prodigal Songs interrogates the mythology of the American West, invites questions about acceptance and family, and is played entirely on one small accordion.
David Gomez is a composer/lyricist/librettist. His music and lyrics have debuted at NYC venues like Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, and Birdland. David is a musical collaborator who enjoys wearing many hats. With composer Jude Obermüller he crafted the lyrics/libretti for The Blue Shoes, Malinche and Feet Keep Me Flying. With Obermüller and librettist Laura Barati, he wrote the lyrics for Miss Havisham’s Wedding which recently had a stage reading presented through Syracuse University's New Works New Voices series. With actor/songwriter John-Michael Lyles he co-wrote the music and words for Shoot For The Moon through support from the Dramatist Guild Fellows Program and as one of Musical Theatre Factory’s MAKERS for 2021. Their musical was a finalist for the Relentless Award in 2023, and has also received support from the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat and the Kurt Weill Foundation. Upcoming: Sugarplum the musical in 2024 in collaboration Julie Danielson and Music Theatre Kansas City. David is invested in continuing the tradition of rancheras y corridos which use lyrics to celebrate Latine stories. Much love to Andrew, and to his family.
David is a previous 2022 Scratch Night participant. We're thrilled to welcome him back!

David's questions for you:
- Did any song evoke a specific location or memory for you?
- Did any song evoke a specific American era?
- What year or era did it feel like the story took place?
- Did you get a sense of each song having its own beginning, middle and end?
